Reviews of Brunton Place Surgery

The old lady at reception was extremely rude and unhelpful. Wouldn't go there even if it was the last open gp surgery in the Edinburgh. Not impressed.

The doctors are hit and miss. I was fobbed off a few times by one, even though I was getting worse, it just felt like they wanted to get me out the door as quickly as possible. (Although I can understand they are under extreme time pressure). I eventually ended up being admitted to hospital by another doctor who was very thorough and lovely, but I do wonder if I had been admitted sooner I could have avoided major emergency surgery.

I'm so relieved I have moved away from this area now and can change surgeries. Avoid this place (if possible!)

They ask you about the reason you came in, and when you start talking they interrupt you because ''they dont have time as more people are waiting and the appointment is just for 10 minutes!''. You end up leaving with leaflets and prescriptions for antibiotics and painkillers without even knowing what you have. Dr.W is rude and careless. At the end you hope you die so you dont have to go back again

Have to agree with the majority of reviews here unfortunately. I think this surgery has too many patients and is not coping. It took me 8 months just to sign up here - I did try ringing round 4 or 5 other surgeries but they were either full or not in my catchment area so I had to presevere with Brunton Place.

As many others have said - it's impossible to get an appointment by ringing, I always pop over in person at 8am to get an appointment (even if I feel terrible) as they just don't answer the phone. I've even said to them "I had to come over as I just couldn't get through on the phone" only to be told "well that's strange, we have been here all morning" - so why doesn't anyone answer the phone then?!! The receptionists are rude on the whole, they talk down to you like you're stupid and I dread having to ask them for an appointment, as they make you feel like a complete inconvenience. I once phoned up and booked a smear test as I was sent a letter to say it was due - when I came in for the appointment the receptionist almost shouted at me in a condescending way saying "why did you book your smear test with the doctor - it's supposed to be with a nurse!!" I politely told them I'd phoned up and asked for a smear test, I had no idea who it was booked with as the receptionist had booked it all for me. Also if you book an appointment in advance you have to wait 2 weeks at least, which is pretty pointless. A lot of times I have waited at the counter for at least 20 minutes at peak times (e.g. 8.30am) and haven't seen anyone on reception - at least three people walking past but they completely ignore you.

I've always had a good experience with this surgery, the staff are very pleasant and the doctors are efficient but thorough. It's a small surgery in a very densely populated area so it's only understandable they have to limit the number of patients.

Can’t complain about the service offered, which is strange given the low reviews posted here. I managed to register by turning up at 7AM on a Tuesday morning and waiting for an hour - not ideal but not so terrible either. I only waited a week for an appointment and the doctor who saw me was courteous and helpful. They seem a little overworked, but aren’t we all a little tired at times?
